Nancy-I can't find your email address so I will just comment here. Here are the steps, the website is a little dated since Blogger just changed a bunch of things a few months ago.
So copy the HTML code for the backround you want, then go into your Layout area and hit Add a Gaget. Then you want to scroll down to about the 11th option which is HTML/Java Script and paste the code in the large box below. DON'T CHANGE YOUR TEMPLATE HTML CODE OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR SETTINGS. You don't need a title just the code. Hit save and then view your blog, your new backround should be there.
